TATTOO AFTERCARE
Getting a tattoo is an investment. Protect your tattoo by following the proper aftercare routine.
-
After you get your tattoo, leave the bandage on until the end of the day.
-
Wash your hands and remove your bandage carefully.
-
Some people choose to sleep with their bandage on for the first night. This is up to you.
-
-
Wash your tattoo with a fragrance free, liquid antibacterial soap.
-
Fragrance free soap is recommended because the fragrance can cause irritation to your skin.
-
We do not recommend using bar soap to wash your tattoo. This can spread bacteria to the open wound and also contaminate the bar for future use.
-
-
Rinse your tattoo and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
-
Do not use a washcloth or towel. Fibers and bacteria can get into the open wound.
-
-
Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor ointment onto the tattoo. The skin should be able to breath through the ointment. Avoid thick applications.
-
Repeat this process for the first 3-4 days. After day 4 switch to applying a fragrance free lotion instead of an ointment.
-
Your tattoo will be itchy. This is normal and means that your tattoo is healing.
-
Do not scratch your tattoo. If you are feeling itchy, pat the area or apply lotion.
-
Make sure your tattoo is properly covered during the first few weeks. Avoid direct contact with surfaces (gym mats, work out equipment, public transportation, etc.)
-
No swimming, submerging or sun tanning for at least two weeks.
-
Do not touch your tattoo unless you are cleaning or applying lotion. Always wash hands before touching the tattoo to avoid infection.
-
Do not let anyone else touch your tattoo!
